Re: A/C not cool enough, low charge / air in system?

I thought air because of the low side pressure being 39 psi at idle (which I thought was kinda high). I figured with a low charge both the low and the high side would be low. I agree with previous comments: The system is definitely symptomatic of a low charge. If it's the compressor shaft seal that...

Re: New AC Compressor failed

Hello, Was there any compressor oil in the system or was any oil added before applying power to the compressor? Rick I'm thinking along the same lines as Rick and also tbirdtbird. Do you know whether the "new" compressor seized? Also, is this still R-12 or was the system converted to R-13...

Re: High side too high

The Fan was removed earlier and replaced with an electric fan, he was having trouble getting it up to temp so that it would pass SMOG. Is the electric fan still in it or did he reinstall the original fan to pass inspection? The oil that I drained from the compressor looked great, a light amber and ...

Re: High side too high

In addition to a reminder about replacing the fan clutch, I forgot to mention paying attention to the color of the old oil. Unless the system contains bright green UV dye for leak checking purposes, the oil in a normally operating system should be light to medium amber in color. Black looking oil th...

Re: High side too high

With a high side of 350 PSI, the compressor definitely is still pumping. Incidentally, what was the approximate ambient temperature when you recorded the pressures? If you and the truck's owner want to take a chance and re-use the existing compressor, be sure to oil-flush it a few times beforehand. ...

Re: High side too high

Is the compressor noisy? I wouldn't be surprised if it is because if he installed PAG oil on top of the old mineral oil remaining in the system, not only are they incompatible but the compressor also might be compromised...not to mention that there might be too much oil in the system. And since the ...
