Re: 86 S10 LS Swap - A/C info needed
I didn't mean to infer that the line was modified in any way. I just wondered whether that test port was used for some other purpose, especially since it has a Schrader valve inside. It looks like it could have been used for a high-side pressure switch. Certainly none of my R-12 service equipment wi...

Re: 86 S10 LS Swap - A/C info needed
That's nothing like any R-12 test port I've ever seen. It looks like a miniature 1/2" ACME. Was a pressure switch originally screwed onto that fitting perhaps?

Re: 86 S10 LS Swap - A/C info needed
Doh! Helps if you remove the shrader valve before installing the adapter! Well, Low side is 1/4" flared and the adapter I bought (description below) fits fine. The high pressure service port, however, is smaller than 1/4" and is not flared. Thoughts? Both 1/4" Flare adapters (the sam...

Re: 86 S10 LS Swap - A/C info needed
If I understand the issue correctly, the R-12 service port on the original high-side line is a 1/4" flare fitting. If the new accumulator (dryer) is of the original configuration (for R-12), the threads on it are also 1/4" flare, not 1/2" ACME. So the R-134a conversion fittings should...

Re: 2003 CRV - needs throttle to keep compressor on, had a leak
so basiclly what I think is happening here is the compressor input shaft bearing is damaged, and that must be causing a leak at the compressor. does it work like that, is there a mechanical seal somewhere around the input shaft? Yes, a compressor shaft seal is located behind the damaged bearing in ...

Re: '99 Pathfinder, Replaced AC System, Comp. Clutch Won't Engage
We share your joy in getting the compressor running. The slightly higher pressures are probably due to reduced airflow through the condenser while the car is setting there, likely at idle speed. Better would be around 1,800 RPM. Are you sure you caught it while the compressor was running and not mom...

Re: 2003 CRV - needs throttle to keep compressor on, had a leak
If I understand correctly, the bearing you mention that's held in place with a circlip is indeed part of the clutch assembly, which you have already ordered. The clutch assembly should fix the problem you're having as long as the compressor itself isn't damaged.

Re: '99 Pathfinder, Replaced AC System, Comp. Clutch Won't Engage
The pressures look good. I'm presuming that the ambient temperature was about 85°F. In addition to what has already been suggested, it seems to me that the PCM, ECM, or whatever you want to call it isn't receiving the correct signals from the various sensors to turn-on the compressor relay. Even if ...

Re: '99 Pathfinder, Replaced AC System, Comp. Clutch Won't Engage
Sometimes, what the manufacturer says about how much oil is installed in a new compressor turns out not to be valid. That's why the recommendation is to drain a new compressor of whatever oil might be in it and refill with the correct amount and type. In addition to what came out of the drain plug, ...

Re: 87 4Runner
If I understand correctly, each of the two replacement compressors came with 3 ounces of PAG oil pre-filled from the factory. According to my vague recollection (it's been a while), your 4Runner takes a total of about 7 ounces of oil—mineral oil originally, and PAG oil now. Did you pour out and meas...
