Re: RV ac storage question.

Commercial trucking has been chasing this problem ever since California went after the emissions from idling diesel trucks with sleepers at truck stops. Several schemes evolved from manufacturers of various sizes... Some that run from a 24v battery bank, others that us a small engine driven compress...

Re: Just Curious

Replace the gauge if it took a hit that hard. Low side R12 gauges typically have a 100 - 120 psi range and a snubber for those little "accidents". When you hit one hard enough to bend it to 45psi permanently it may never register accurately again. Newer 410a HVAC systems can see 350+ psi o...

Re: New AC Compressor failed

I agree Tim, no way to know where the fault lies on this one. Could be a bad compressor - those happen occasionally - or every time with 4S Could be the shop has not seen an R12 vehicle in a decade, and just charged it with 134A Could be the compressor was shipped dry as a bone and the shop dumped t...

Re: New AC Compressor failed

It depends on which refrigerant type you plan to use. R12 needs 525 Mineral oil 134a needs PAG150 in that compressor Either way a dry system needs 8 fluid ounces of oil, and 56 ounces by weight of refrigerant. Any replacement compressor should be filled with 6 ounces of the correct oil on the bench,...

So the technician charged this vehicle with R12 refrigerant?

Re: New AC Compressor failed

A "new" compressor... Newly manufactured or a reman that is "new" to this vehicle?

Should be an R4 compressor. Those need a healthy dose of oil at startup.

This is a 1988 car, so it was originally an R12 car. Has it been converted? Did the technician note this in any way?

Check all of the vacuum hoses and check valves underhood. Loss of vacuum signal to the control head on older Ford products lets the system vacuum motors return to default locations. Usually a defrost setting. My old F150 had a bad check valve. It would blow out the defrost vents at WOT on hills.

Re: What happens when capacity of system is exceeded?

Yeah, I think I said as much in his other thread a few days ago. Build a bypass pipe to replace the POA and test the system performance.

You could add a bung to the bypass tube and install an adjustable LPCO...

Re: What happens when capacity of system is exceeded?

We understand the EPR / POA valve here quite well. However there is little or no baseline experience with that particular POA valve. Is it just too small? Set too conservative? Just fine? . All possible. I suppose you could build a bypass connector and remove it from the system for some testing. You...

Re: 2012 GMC Yukon AC + chiller mess

I have never had TXV's "hunt" on decoupled systems. For years I have heard that a V5 / V7 compressor and a TXV will "hunt" as well, but I have never had it happen. Just my experience. Converting the OT to TXV is usually done right at the firewall. Clamp the thermocouple to the su...
