Re: Not sure if it was a Joke.

I, too, have desiccant dryers plumbed into my shop air system, in addition to several other dryers and pre-filters. When mine become saturated, the beads turn from dark blue to light pink, letting me know that it's time to rejuvenate them, which I do using an ordinary gas grill. I bake them at 200 ...

Re: A/C not cool enough, low charge / air in system?

Your charge is low. Have a shop recover what is in there and recharge to spec on label under hood. This. I'm not a pro, but do have some experience and knowledge. If your 2004 hasn't had any AC work done in like a decade, could just be slight seepage by the compressor seal over the years, and might...

Re: DEC or High-Performance oil?

Because DEC Pag is capped at both ends in the structure of the oil. Claims and research show that it is less likely to attract moisture over SEC Pag. I would tend to agree that in theory double end capped PAG should attract less moisture than a single end capped version, because single end capped w...

Re: New AC Compressor failed

I'm in Arizona. Some shops here still service R-12 vehicles; shop needs to have dedicated recovery and service equipment for R-12. Any real AC mechanic can instantly tell if a system has been upgraded to use R134a, provided that the conversion was done legally/properly (R134a service fittings, stick...

Re: New AC Compressor failed

The car is original. Has not been converted in any way. So the technician charged this vehicle with R12 refrigerant? Great question. I see at least 2 scenarios which could have caused issues: 1. New compressor might've arrived filled with 525 mineral oil and R134a was added to an R-12 system by &qu...

Re: New AC Compressor failed

"supposed to be factory oiled" The pros on here suggest that regardless of what oil is or isn't already installed, that the compressor be emptied of whatever is in it, then the correct amount of fresh oil installed. This is the only way to be sure if it is correct I'm not a pro, but I alw...

Re: AC warms at higher speeds

Check all of the vacuum hoses and check valves underhood. Loss of vacuum signal to the control head on older Ford products lets the system vacuum motors return to default locations. Usually a defrost setting. I had a 1984 Jeep Cherokee and the 3 vacuum "motors" themselves that controlled ...

Can you wire the cooling fan so it always runs on high when the AC is turned on? Are all the fan shroud parts installed?

Re: 2012 GMC Yukon AC + chiller mess

We had a 2005 GMC Yukon from 2010 through early summer; I did replace the compressor once due to slugging and compressor belt breakage. AC worked very well, Arizona desert, sold it at 235K miles. Yes, front orifice tube and rear TXV, that's how GM does this. So a couple of months ago we picked up a ...
