AC parts worth getting?

Post by fastsvo »

We have a local auto parts store that is closing their doors and I noticed that some components like the compressor are available to purchase at very reasonable prices. My question here is does it make sense to get something like the compressor for a future retrofit? I agree there is more to the total list of parts that would be needed.

A couple of cars that I **could** purchase for an example, a Sanden 508 compressor:

a) 1967 Mustang
b) 1986 SVO Mustang

I feel it would be easier to retrofit the SVO with the usual list of parts (which is almost everything) for a car that hasn't had a functional AC system since 1996. Anyone happen to know which list of part numbers I should be looking for items like the compressor, condenser, hoses, accumulator? A lot of the OEM stuff is no longer available and most people are looking towards late model '91-93 2.3li Mustangs or even Merkur XR4ti for parts at auto parts stores.

Thanks!

Rather than buy new ac parts willy nilly, if you do not have an immediate use for them.
For the SVO, ackits.com may be able to help you. The parts there are reasonably priced.

If it is a Sanden 508. That's an old compressor to begin with, new or not.

It seems companies like Vintage Air and Classic Air are building their kits around the Sanden 508. Still a good compressor to use after all these years? They did mention the use of the Sanden 709 for LS swapped vehicles.

Take the SVO for example, if not the SD508, then which compressor should be utilized?

I'd use an SD7H15 these days.

Thank you.

Is that compressor dimensionally identical to the SD508?

There are different versions based on the model number. But yes, there is a model that mounts like the 508.

SD7H15 4652 Import

Sanden OE New also available.
