Evap temp sensor issue or …. ?

Post by Viggy17 »

Hi. I’ve got a Mercedes Sprinter 2017 314CDI uk RHD. I tried to get it regassed but Halfords Autocentre said the compressor was kaput. I then got a local mobile ac specialist to have a look. He said the ‘nominal evaporator temp sensor’ is showing 2degrees (and isn’t open circuit) yet the ‘evaporator temp sensor’ is 30 degrees, the latter is the correct ambient temp. He doesn’t think it’s the compressor and it has gas but isn’t switching on. My MB dealer can only find one evap temp sensor on the parts diagram but the ac engineer’s system diagnosed two as mentioned above. I’ve tried to get to an evaporator sensor but can’t see one so far. Any advice much appreciated on the issue or where to find the sensor(s). Cheers, Adrian

If the scan tool shows the evaporator temperature sensor to be 2 degrees F then there must be a sensor value. I doubt that it is an imputed value.

On Mercedes, you typically see the evaporator temperature sensor inserted in the air duct close to the evaporator core but not in the evaporator core itself. They are usually easily to access.

With the VIN of your Sprinter, the dealer should be able to pull the proper diagram and show you where the sensor is located. I have never had to change one, but they do fail on rare occasions, like anything.
