shelf life opened DEC pag 100

Post by Turbo »

Need to change a condenser in a 99 Saturn. Have some double ended cap pag 100 from about 10 years back. It was opened once and then sealed back up. Never open again. Think it is still good? I know it is cheap to buy a new bottle but I have it here in my hand. If, it is still good why buy more.

My opinion as a degreed chemist? If the bottle was sealed, then the only moisture that the oil can absorb is the humidity from the headspace of the container, not like it would continue to absorb water as if it had been left over.

How about the oil itself? Well, the refrigeration oil in my 1998 Frontier (R134a) is the original stuff, so 20 years old and it's held up fine. I did add 2 oz. a couple of years ago (containing UV dye) when I had a pinhole and had to replace the high pressure hose.

DEC PAG is good to go. It does not suck up water like the old SEC stuff did.
