What to look for in a Vacuum Pump for A/C?

Postby Hahali » Thu Dec 20, 2018 6:10 am

The title says it all.

It's getting close to that special time of the year in the great Pacific Northwest when the sun shines briefly, and I'm looking at getting my A/C working in my 951, as well as my son's two cars.

This comes up every year and so I've decided to buy a vacuum pump https://mechanicguides.com/best-micron-gauges/ and a gauge/manifold set rather than keep paying someone else to deal with it.

So what do I need?

Vacuum pumps come in a whole lot of different sizes. How many CFM do I need? Single stage or dual? HP? What's a good brand? I've been looking at Mastercool and Robinair pumps on Amazon.

How about a gauge set and lines? Digital vs analog?

What about refrigerant? I'm using Duracool in my NA and it seems to work good, but I thibk R-134a is cheaper.

What are the basics I need to recharge my cars?
