Idle up /stand alone thermistor ,universal applications

Post by swampy 6x6 »

hi
Finally found a system that is universal enough to work on almost any carburettor car . VS the Rochester unit which only functioned once u flicked the accel pedal which of course your engine might stall if equipped with performance cam .GM repackaged it as it was an idle stop solenoid originally.

Back when basic diesel and basic gasoline setups were common , air con idle ups functioned with a vacuum diaphragm with push or pull linkage arm .The vacuum came via engine to a vented on/off solenoid which fed the diaphragm. The solenoid is powered on /off via clutch wire .

Yes these are getting harder to find so I eventually found the vac diaphragm puller for under 25$ on Aliexpress

Basic universal thermistor was also found on Aliexpress 25$

Found the vented vacuum solenoid locally 25$

Hope this helps some one who is hot rodding etc

Yes, I remember those original idle-up systems. Had one on a 1976 Impala with factory A/C that a family member once owned.
