1996 geo metro ac oil?

Post by hotrod »

Customer removed ac compressor all freon and a lot of oil escaped. Very little oil in compressor. System holds 3.0oz acorrding to label on compressor. sanding brand looking up correct oil is amount 3.4oz. Either pag 100or150or 46 nobody agrees! Without knowing how much oil escaped how much to add in this small system.freon charge 1.32lbs. What oil is correct and how much no guessing please?

Compressor built by Sanden in JAPAN with Sanden SP-10 double end capped PAG same as ND pag and similar to PAG 46 viscosity.
Other applications of the SD7-B10 use only 3 oz. because the body ported compressor utilizes all suction flow through the crankcase to supply cool oil continuously directly to bearing and sliding wear surface rather than a variable crankcase oil level.

Here's what my reference documentation says for the 1995-1996 Geo Metro, all engines:

18.00 ounces R-134a
3.50 ounces PAG-46

I also see from my source documentation that the 1.32-pounds R-134a spec (21.12 ounces) that you mentioned is only for the 1997 Geo Metro. The oil spec is the same, though: 3.50 ounces of PAG-46.
