Equipped with 350 TBI engine and the dreaded R4 comp. Front and rear air. R134a
Belonged to a parent of a friend. When R4 first imploded, dealer replaced and parent paid for lifetime guarantee.
Of course the condenser was never changed, so subsequent imploded R4s were merely bolted in without ever doing the job correctly, leading to a heap of R4s in a pile.

My friend wants to change out all the components of the system w/ exception of evap. He is aware of the costs, and we intend to get all components from AMA. He wants nothing to do with an R4, and can access adapter brackets to use a Sanden instead.
My research shows the typical Sanden equivalent to be the SD7H15 HD. Evidently the HD merely means a dust cover over the clutch.
The burning question is what would the pros here use for a Sanden. The R4 has a displacement of 10 cu in, but the SD7H15 only 9.5. So, how important is that last 0.5?
Also, need refrigerant and oil charge info.

Tim, is that TM-16 available as rear exit and 6 groove pulley?

So I don't look up 10 different versions. What type of rear ports do you want? V-oring, Horzational O-ring, tube-O and ...

WoW, had no idea of so many options....
This is a job we are going to do when it cools down in the fall, this burb is not his daily.
Might not know the answer til we remove it? Were hoping to gather parts ahead of time....

Can I tell from the outside?
Would a VIN number help??

I was just trying to be specific. Yes, there are maybe 20 different models of that compressor if you are planning to use the old hose, which may not match up. Could use a GM PAd.
