Compressor for Duramax/Vintage Air

Post by Squaremax »

I am in the process of swapping a 2009 LMM Duramax engine into my 1985 Chevy K10. Since I'm bringing the rest of the truck into modern times I want to replace the A/C. I contacted Vintage Air since they have a kit that is a direct fit. I don't know much about automotive hvac but would like to install the kit myself. The problem is that Vintage Air uses fixed displacement compressors and the one on a Duramax is supposedly a variable displacement. As of right now I don't even have a compressor. It wasn't on the engine when I bought it. Can I just swap in a fixed compressor in for the variable on the Duramax? If it's not a direct swap what would be involved in changing them out? Thanks.

2009 DirtyMax had either a 10S17F compressor, or if it had the ambulance package a 10S20F compressor.

Both are fixed displacement compressors. So just buy a new compressor for the engine. Might want to contact Vintage Air and ask which displacement is a better fit for their evaporator.
