Re: Vintage AC System Questions
The Pro6TEN compressor is a new, modern replacement for the original A6. You can oil the system either way by putting all of it in the compressor (if it will fit) as the vendor suggested. Or, if you prefer, you can "oil balance" the system and distribute it as you mentioned throughout the ...

Re: Drain oil out of new compressor?
*Also Im a bit mystified why you need to change vacuum pump oil with every use, seems excessive but granted i dont understand vacuum pumps. I change the oil after every second use. The oil does pick up moisture, so it's best to get the contaminated oil out so that the pump can draw the best possibl...

Re: Brand new AC compressor defective?
Enviro Safe is an alternative refrigerant comprising a mixture of propane and isobutane--very dangerous stuff. This Forum doesn't advocate the use of such refrigerants that aren't US-EPA approved. See #3 under "Forum rules."
I regret that I can't advise you further.

Re: Where is a micron gauge placed when vacuuming system?
I noticed that the pictured micron gauge apparently is set up for MVAC R-12 systems and also (I believe) residential A/C systems, which means it has quarter-inch flare fittings that won't work with MVAC R-134a and R-1234yf systems. Therefore, you'll have to purchase the appropriate adapters to use i...

Re: Charging a custom system.
A couple of issues come to mind about the TXV. The first is that we don't know for certain whether the TXV the shop installed is any good. The second is that the sensing bulb is wrapped in what looks to me like duct tape, which isn't sufficient as far as insulating properties are concerned. It's lik...

Re: Charging a custom system.
In your first post, the low-side pressure was 36 PSI, which means that your evaporator is running 40°F or a bit higher, too warm for decent cooling.
What kind of TXV does your Civic have, a block-type or one having a sensing bulb?

Re: New Ac system acting up - need advice
UPDATE #2: Quite a bit more refrigerant was added to my system today. I think at least another 6-8ozs today for a total of about 10-12oz more. At 1500 rpms (ac full blast) I was able to get the low side pressure to just about 30psi and high side to 225psi. Ambient temperature outside is 86. Center ...

Re: New Ac system acting up - need advice
First, check your Manifold Gauge Set and/or RRR machine, as well as the hoses, to verify no equipment leaks. At 86°F with a full charge and good condensing, the high side should be around 200 to 220 PSI. Since yours is an aftermarket system, chances are that the specs aren't the same as those for a ...

Re: New Ac system acting up - need advice
I, too, think the system is somewhat low on refrigerant. Presuming that you're testing under the proper conditions, not at idle, a low-side pressure of 30 PSI correlates to an evaporator temperature of around 34°F, which is just about right. We'll wait for you to post the high-side, center vent, and...
