Re: 2008 Altima Not Cooling

It's an electric pump that I got from Autozone on their loaner program. I think OEM is the brand. It's a 1.5 CFM pump. I did not change the oil, but I can. The oil is at the proper level in the window and is crystal clear. I just checked the vacuum several hours later and it's still holding vacuum. ...

Re: 2008 Altima Not Cooling

I finally got around to ordering parts and got everything installed today. What looked like should have taken a couple of hours took me most of the day. Whomever designed these things definitely didn't have the DIY'er in mind. Lots of scratches from cramped awkward positions and lot's of explitives ...

Re: 2008 Altima Not Cooling

I forgot to ask earlier, but when you disassembled the dash to check the blend door, did you get into the evaporator case to clean it out, removing any leaves and other gunk that might have accumulated? Also, since you recently picked up an electronic "sniffer," and since reassembling the...

Re: 2008 Altima Not Cooling

Okay, so it looks like I need a compressor, condenser, drier and o-rings. I'm also replacing the discharge line because I found some dye pretty high up on that line. It could be blow back, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Is it necessary to replace the TXV? It's mounted in the firewall and looks l...

Re: 2008 Altima Not Cooling

okay, I might be kind of a dummy. I had the hoses hooked up backwards, but in my defense, the instructions on the case are clearly wrong. It states to hook the red hose to the low side and blue to the high. I knew it didn't make sense. I switched them and now I'm getting 40/low and 100/high with the...

Re: 2008 Altima Not Cooling

Did you have an approximate full charge in the system when you recorded these pressures? If so, it looks to me like the compressor is shot. I honestly have no clue. The AC was working great for the first couple of weeks, then quit cooling. I added probably a can and a half of freon with dye and it ...

Re: 2008 Altima Not Cooling

Well, pressures are not at zero. The static pressure with the car off is 80 low/ 100 high. With the car running and AC on max (compressor engaged) is 102 low/ 37 high. I'm unable to find a leak with the sniffer. Thoughts? ***EDIT*** Fun Fact: There is dye and what I can only assume is compressor oil...

Re: 2008 Altima Not Cooling

Please recall that you do not have to have a full charge to find your leak. One can will do Understood. The last can I added had a dye in it so hopefully that will aid in finding the source of the leak. The sniffer shows that it has been delivered so I should have more data to report tonight. Appre...

Re: 2008 Altima Not Cooling

The specs that I have for your car indicate 18 ounces net weight of R-134a and 5 fluid ounces of PAG-46. As mentioned, if you have an under-hood decal with different specs, the decal takes precedence. Is there a conversion to determine how many ounces of canned freon equates to 18 oz. net weight wi...

Re: 2008 Altima Not Cooling

The system might very well have a leak someplace as already mentioned. But have you checked the gap between the clutch plates (if you can get a feeler gauge in there)? The gap should be around 0.020" +/- 0.005". If it's out of spec, the clutch might engage occasionally or not at all. If i...
