Re: 2004 Subaru Forester rattling noise when compressor is running
I think the rotary-vane style compressor is on its way out, which is why it's making a rattling noise. In addition, looks like the potting compound sealing the clutch coil is cracking and compromised due to age and/or heat. I'd replace the compressor assembly with a new one (not rebuilt) before it d...

Re: Recharing 2009 Mazda5 - the service manual or normal way?
I am attempting to recharge my 2009 Mazda5. I have vacuumed the system for an hour and a half, let it sit under vacuum multiple days. It has held vacuum, and I am charging by weight with 12 ounce cans and a scale. I can get it to take about three ounces of refrigerant, and the low side goes up to a...

Re: Refrigerant capacity. 2006 Scion XA.
A parallel-flow condenser also acts as a filter of sorts and will partially clog if the compressor disintegrates internally and sends its debris downstream. In such a case, the condenser will definitely need to be replaced, which is why I asked about the presence of metal and plastic particles in th...

Re: Procedure for Nissan Leaf
For your 2020 Leaf, the configuration of the R/D and condenser is the same as for the 2018 Leaf mentioned above.

Re: Procedure for Nissan Leaf
You didn't post the year of your Leaf. Regardless, for a 2018 model year Leaf, the R/D is attached to but not integral with the condenser. So the entire R/D on a 2018 Leaf is replaceable separately from the condenser in the usual manner. To my knowledge, there is no other R/D downstream from the one...

Re: Noise after AC service
After removing the compressor, i tried draining oil from it and not a single drop of oil came out. Looking into the suction port, the inside also looked pretty dry. The compressor was oily on the outside, propably lost all it's oil. There was even oil on the belt tensioner and coolant overflow tank...

Re: Refrigerant capacity. 2006 Scion XA.
With that much mileage, it's a good idea to replace the compressor assembly with a new one (not a rebuilt unit). The original compressor has been running along with the engine since the car was new, so I'm sure it's gotten a bit "tired" by now. The new compressor comes with a new control v...

Re: Refrigerant capacity. 2006 Scion XA.
Good idea to scan it for codes and glad none showed up for the A/C system. It could be low on charge but not quite low enough to trigger the trinary switch threshold and shut down the system. Run it like that long enough and the compressor will be "starved" for oil, eventually ruining it. ...

Re: Refrigerant capacity. 2006 Scion XA.
I think you're right that the system is getting the proper electrical signals to run. Additionally, if the pulley on the front of the compressor is turning with the engine running, then the compressor itself is also turning since it's directly driven by the engine and doesn't have a clutch (if my in...

Re: Refrigerant capacity. 2006 Scion XA.
According to the information I have, that car's compressor is directly driven by the engine and doesn't have a clutch, meaning that the compressor runs whenever the engine is running. Instead of a clutch cycling system, this system uses an ECM-governed electronic control valve to vary the compressor...
