Re: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Not sure how many R/D it has had in its life with the multiple repair attempts. Under my repair I initially installed a new Comp, R/D and Condenser, so just 1 RD. Noticed the diving and constant cycling. I was on the fence about tearing into the dash if not needed, but went ahead and replaced the Ev...

Re: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

I’m going to start with a new Rec/Drier. This problem has followed two TXV and Evaporators. The constant is the R/D. Then if problem persist, I will order an OEM TXV and install that. I’m back to work for a few days so I will update when I get the new R/D in.
Thanks again.

Re: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Thanks John I believe the compressor in your vehicle is the scroll type, which isn't renowned for reliability and longevity. Was the compressor that you installed a rebuilt, new aftermarket, or new OEM? - Brand new compressor, not rebuilt. Is the compressor making any unusual sounds when it's runnin...

Re: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

I have a 1/2 HP electric vacuum pump. I live in Phoenix AZ and after sitting in the sun yesterday for 6 hours the interior of the car was probably 95-100 degrees. I’ve seen sensing bulbs on AC units and refrigerators be un-insulated, just a discussion point and observation. I insulated with aircraft...

Re: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Thanks John. The second thin tube coming off the TXV is a return oil line and not a refrigerant line. - That makes sense. A maximum evacuation reading of 27.5 in.Hg. on your Manifold Gauge Set indicates that you're located at about 2,500-3,000' elevation. If not, did you verify the low-side MGS read...

Re: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Ran it in the driveway after letting it sit in the sun all day. 78* in the shade. Clutch cycling on/off every 25 seconds. Vent temp 50*f Engine 1500 rpm. LP cycling between 20 - 45 HP cycling between 110-175 (needle bouncing +/- 10 psi) Vent temp 50*f I feel something is still wrong. The cycling and...

Re: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

I charge with a 30lb cylinder, and a refrigerant scale. I have a vacuum pump, which for my temp/altitude pulled 27.5”. Vacuumed for an hour.

Re: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Got the evap out, which was relatively painless. About 20 min to have the case on my workbench. New Evap and Exp Valve installed. I didn’t add any oil to the Evap, as pointed out I didn’t compensate for that on the initial oil charge. About 2 table spoons came out of the old evap. Vacuumed down for ...

Re: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

I had wedged the throttle open with a screwdriver and that produced 2000 rpm. The results were the same, but the cycling happened faster. The car is pretty much rust free, and I recovered almost a full charge. I pressurized the system with 250 lbs of nitrogen to test for leaks. The expansion valve i...
