Re: 1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

I still got the same threat message today when I tried to Post a Reply (this reply). Then when I clicked again (like before), I don't get the message. As to the E-mail, did this block my E-mail to you, or when you tried to E-mail back to me? I'm with Cox E-mail (they will change to Yahoo soon with s...

Re: 1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

Let's wait until we get further clarification from the owner, thanks. By the way, I now have newer computer with Windows10 and Avast antivirus software, and when I go to the forum site I get the following message, which doesn't come up for any other site. I'll send you a screen capture of that in an...

Re: 1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

It's an A6 by your part number. Hub/bearing fail all the time on those. Resurface the clutch pulley, bearing, and hub. A6 will always leak for the most part. If it still has some refrigerant. I'd do the clutch rebuild first. Swap oil and accumulator and see what you get with R134a. The old caddy sh...

Re: 1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

Thanks, all. I will pass on your responses to him; he lives in Prescott, but his two kids live in Phoenix, so he might be amenable to a repair shop here. I'll let him make the decision, don't think I should get involved hands-on other than bypassing the compressor with shorter belt so car is driveab...

Re: 1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

I will pass on the suggestions to the owner. The car is a family "heirloom", in pretty nice condition for its age, and not a show car. Would anyone link good instructions on how to replace a compressor clutch on this, like with any extractor/installer tools? I have pulled AC clutches on ab...

1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

My friend has a 1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille which has been in his family forever; nothing has been done to the AC (still R-12) in decades. He reports that the AC only cooled "mediocre" in 90F weather last summer, figure some refrigerant loss over those years. However, his immediate issue i...

Re: R134a oil

When I was working in the chemistry lab, I could use infrared spectroscopy (IR, FTIR) to detail in two minutes whether refrigeration oil in a system was PAG or mineral-type oil. Know anyone who works in a chemistry lab???

Re: wont hold vacum but will hold pressure

How do you know it is holding pressure? My interpretation is that since there was R134a in the system (6.57 pounds ) that he ASSUMES that it's holding pressure. I would think a big leak would even be able to be heard and would not hold 6.57 pounds for long. So I suggested for him to do a vacuum tes...

Re: wont hold vacum but will hold pressure

The leak could be in your AC system or in your equipment; check out the equipment first for leakage.
