Re: Oil Fill Confusion, and a Mystery Item

Oh, I didn't know about this vehicle's history of sitting for more than 15 years. In this case, I would solvent-flush the entire system—including the hoses, lines, condenser, and evaporator—and proceed from there. Note that hoses and lines with inline mufflers (can-like devices) can't be flushed and...

Re: 2007 chrysler 300 A/C not performing well at idle

I vacuumed the whole system including manifold gauge set for 30 minutes then let set for another 30 minutes for a leak test and it held a vacuum. I am certain all air was purged from my gauges. The compressor is new. Very good. Were you able to pull a vacuum of 29.9 InHg or thereabouts? The compres...

Re: Newbie, installing "custom" system

I looked, but I don't have any specifications for your military Humvee with the Duramax turbodiesel V-8 and 10S20F compressor. If no one on this Forum knows, perhaps another board specific to your vehicle could provide the information you need. Alternatively, I've learned that Classic Auto Air and a...

Re: 2007 chrysler 300 A/C not performing well at idle

Several aspects about your post suggest the following: Nowhere in your description do you mention evacuating the system. Before charging, the system MUST be evacuated to remove all traces of moisture and air. Charging from the small 12-ounce cans could result in an undercharge if you didn't weigh-in...

Re: Oil Fill Confusion, and a Mystery Item

Has the system in this vehicle been converted from R-12 to R-134a? The reason I ask is that the oils for these refrigerants are different and can't be mixed. R-12 uses mineral oil, whereas R-134a uses PAG oil. According to a couple of sources (including Four Seasons), the complete system oil capacit...

Re: Can I drive on the highway without a condenser fan?

Your original fan looks pretty "crusty," all right, so I'm not surprised that it's blowing the fuse. If the second used fan to which you have access doesn't work out, at least two other used OEM fans are available online that look decent. A replacement fan motor for a CR-V is also availabl...

Re: Behaving intermittently

It could even be the temperature outside. I wonder if there's some kind of safety switch or thermal overload type deal that makes the AC going to underdrive when it gets really hot outside Just the opposite would be the case. If your vehicle has a variable displacement compressor, the compressor wo...

Re: Recovered Refrigerant - Usable? Disposal Process?

I don't own a professional RRR (Recovering/Recycling/Recharging) machine. That said, this is a brief overview of my understanding of how such a machine works. By hooking up the red and blue service hoses to the vehicle, a technician can recover, recycle, evacuate, and recharge (from the on-board rec...

Just the "wintertime" part was funny, not the rest, which is why I didn't quote it.

At ambient temperatures above 100°F (like it was in Phoenix recently)

That was wintertime.
