Very interesting. Appreciate your taking the time to do that measurement.

No need to mark this thread "solved." You said it, and most if not all of the Forum's consultants will see your comment.

Re: refilling a large r134a self-sealing can?

Taking the discussion further, why not just purchase a 30-pound cylinder and be done with it? I know R-134a is more costly nowadays, but the upside is you'll have plenty of refrigerant to use in the future should you need it...and you probably will. Also invest in a good refrigerant scale so that yo...

Re: Separate Systems for each Refrigerant ?

I think what you're referring to is recovery instead of evacuation . In theory, you could recover the refrigerant by using a vacuum pump and storage tank. But remember that a modern RRR machine also recycles the refrigerant by identifying, filtering, and removing moisture from the recovered refriger...

Re: Separate Systems for each Refrigerant ?

If you're referring to professional RRR machines, they usually are designed for specific refrigerants and oil types—for example, R-12/Mineral Oil (virtually obsolete nowadays); R-134a/PAG Oil; and R-1234yf/Special PAG Oil. Lately, I've heard that RRR machines are now being produced that can handle b...

Good news. Keep an eye on it, though. Sometimes, the leak you find might not be the only one.

Re: 10S20F Performance Chart

Some additional thoughts... A low-side pressure of around 50 PSI at 2,000 RPM correlates to an evaporator temperature of ~55°F, much too warm for a comfortable cabin, especially at 100°F-plus ambient temperatures. The elevated low-side pressures you're seeing seem to suggest an OT problem—an orifice...

Re: When charging by weight, fill to max?

I would like to add a few thoughts to this discussion. The A/C system in your '98 Toyota Tacoma has been designed to run with between 550 grams (19.4 ounces) and 650 grams (22.9 ounces) of refrigerant per the under-hood decal. So an "actual" R-134a charge anywhere within that range, includ...

Re: Random AC

I believe your Scion has an electronic control valve but no clutch. If so, the compressor is a variable-displacement unit driven directly by the engine. It's possible after 17 years that the control valve is malfunctioning, which could cause the problem you're experiencing. You'll have to have the r...

Re: sniffer tips - TIF5550 sniffer

I've had my electronic leak detector (sniffer) for about 20 years, and it's still working very well with the original sensor tip. The tips that you purchased, although imported, should be fine since they're made to TIF's specifications. It's probable that something else is wrong with your sniffer. N...
