Re: 59 Deville AC problems

Again.

What type of oil, how much, and where was it installed?

How much 134a was charged in to the system?

Re: 59 Deville AC problems

The A5 with the Hot gas bypass worked well. The valve is an easy rebuild, sometimes the cam & pintle are worn. An A6 conversion probably works ok, never messed with one. Are you usure of the hose routing? Pics in this thread: https://www.autoacforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=331 Finally how mu...

Re: How to charge custom system

Well, since most of us don't have a wind tunnel, we find other ways. The physics of a refrigerant gas make it predictable at a given temperature. As long as the system is above 50f there will be both liquid & gas. The P/T relationship will affect the gas pressure, but the liquid volume change ov...

Re: Upgrading (and remounting) a Vintage AC system

The York compressor is probably geared down to suit the application - how big is the crankshaft pulley? Any direct mount compressor could be adapted to that mount - but direct mount compressors tend to have serpentine belts so a clutch change would be needed. A V5 for instance would be a great choic...

Re: 2006 F250 AC Issue

Well, outside of the obvious air leaks on the evaporator box you need to deal with, there are a couple of other issues. 1) The cycling switch hysteresis. This is a problem I have seen with this vintage Ford before. It should not be waiting for 60 psi to turn back on. It may also be responsible for t...

Re: 2005 Toyota Prius high pressure low side

The pressures look undercharged. Given that the compressor is a reman, it could be a bad compressor if the charge level is correct. I would add an ounce & see what it does. At 77f ambient I would expect high side pressures around 170 psi. Even if the TXV is stuck wide open it should cool better ...

Re: 2004 Frontier AC stopped working today

Yep, we are still running the hell out of our A/C systems here in the southwest. We put a lot of hours on stuff, and it wears out. Ever think about how many trips the few ounces of oil in your system has made through the compressor in 100,000 miles? We all bash the "4 squeezins" rebuilt st...

Re: aerospace application 6000 RPM and Counterclockwise

There is a Sanden SD7V16 that rotates CCW. A variable displacement compressor, you could probably just let it run full time - it will de-stroke to minimum when the suction side pressure drops.

The SD7V16 max RPM is 8000, so it should be ok with 6k.

Have to wait for Ice to drift back in to the forum - he circulates in the corporate compressor world.
