Re: Noise after AC service

I run a factory setting 195°F thermostat in my 1988 Mazda truck and my engine runs perfect with AC, even at idle, no overheating, fan clutch as well. And I'm in Arizona where 93°F is the mid-summer LOW, and we can hit 115°F readily - in the shade ! Yes the Arizona heat..My uncle lives in Phoenix, I...

Re: Noise after AC service

I've heard about the existence of both R4 piston compressors and the R4 scroll variant, but I've never replaced a piston version with a scroll version. Please let us know how it works out. So far it works very nice. I drove the car on a 93°F day and while cruising at 45 to 50 mph, vent temps were a...

Re: Noise after AC service

Almost forgot: the vacuum issue. After alot more research I found another manufacturer of vacuum pumps that seemed to be good. Paid 160€ for it. For anyone looking in Europe: Value V-i120SV. Has a vacuum gauge directly mounted to the pump with a proper scale (still not accurate like a micron gauge I...

Re: Noise after AC service

Quick follow up: I changed the compressor, along with flushing the system, new accumulator, new orifice, new serpentine belt, o-rings and valve cores. After removing the compressor, i tried draining oil from it and not a single drop of oil came out. Looking into the suction port, the inside also loo...

Re: Noise after AC service

I will do a third try with the vacuum. Tomorrow i will fly to Greece for vacation on a sailing boat with a group of friends. After that, I'll order another proper vacuum pump, gauge set and an additional calibrated vacuum gauge. I think I found good parts at an AC shop. The internet is full of crap....

Re: Noise after AC service

I attached a picture of a kind of similar low side gauge that was on my MGS. I unfortunately did not make a photo of it. I already returned it because I could not calibrate it. But there you see that the positive pressure range is measured in psi or bar, and the green vacuum section in inhg or bar. ...

Re: Noise after AC service

The 27inhg is what the gauge sets low pressure side was showing, not connected to the car. The cars AC is still full of refrigerant. Before doing any work on the car, I wanted to have a working, leakfree set of vacuum pump and gauge. It is leakfree as mentioned, but not enough vacuum. Unfortunately ...

Re: Noise after AC service

After getting another, more expensive, vacuum pump (2 stage 9cfm pump and new gauge sets), vacuum got down to 27inhg. No leaks, vacuum was holding over night, but still not enough of course. I noticed the gauges were not perfectly at 0 without vacuum applied. I used the little screw to calibrate the...

Re: Noise after AC service

It is basically because a european law prohibits anyone from buying refrigerant without a license. Unfortunately I cannot get this license, because you are only allowed to take the test for it if you work in an HVAC company. So even if I would pass the test and know everything about ACs, law says no...

Re: Noise after AC service

Alright, since I kind of like working on my own cars and the parts arrived (and my mechanics next possible appointment is in 3 months  ), I took a look at my engine to see what else I will need before I tear the AC apart. Btw: I noticed the compressor housing looking pretty dirty, also the belt...
