That shaft looks pretty rusty.... Try a good penetrating lube, like PB Blaster, soak the crap out of it and let it marinate overnight. Then try pulling/prying it off again tomorrow. One other point you need to know about installing O-rings is to never install them dry. Always lube them with whatever compressor oil your AC system uses prior to installation.
