IMO, you will never get it to cool with a single system. Just too much volume of air to cool enough. Many have hung curtains or the freezer vinal behind the seats to reduce the volume.

Slugging happens more when the gauges are connected to the compressor itself. I always have, and most will charge as a liquid unless I'm using an R & R machine. But there is a concern when charging as a liquid. SO be gentle; no need to open the gauges wide open right off the bat when charging.

It's a piston compressor, so there is no internal control valve. Zero pressure and hub turning, possible broken shaft.
