A sintered bronze bearing is impregnated with oil. Not good enough?

Re: How do I tell type of oil in system?
An analytical chemist (like me before I retired) could use FTIR to determine easily the oil type by comparing to standards. I did that with a few new or rebuilt compressors to determine whether PAG or R-12 type mineral oil had been added. There may be other ways, do a Google Search. FTIR is Fourier...

What happened? Got tangled in the belt somehow, I assume?bohica2xo wrote:The target clearance is as tight as you can get it without dragging - it only gets larger with time.
After seeing the result of a mishap last year with the "smack the clutch while running" trick i quit recommending it.

Re: Advice needed
The clutch bearing "only" comes into play when the clutch is "disengaged". When engaged you have more load on the belt, etc.

Re: Intermittently working AC in a VW
What do you think would be the best way to do this? I think to make a proper test I actually need the PWM signal to still drive the compressor. I could disconnect the signal at the compressor, jumper it, and tap it there, except that I'm not sure I can get the right wires down there into the engine...

Re: Intermittently working AC in a VW
VAG scan tool. Is there a way that doesn't cost as much as a new compressor? I have access to oscilloscopes and soldering equipment at the office. I was hoping I could just hook up some probes somewhere and monitor the signal on a scope? If it's a PWM signal it's nothing but a pulsed 12V at some fr...

Re: Why the change to: Charge by weight not psi?
I've done cars that with 1 ounce overcharge will cut out on high pressure- some systems take only 14 ounces or a pound-- very small room for error. Many scales might not have the accuracy for that. I have a Mastercool 98210-A and it's supposed to be +/- 0.5oz but I'm not sure if it really is. I wei...

Re: New guy here with a question on Oil
Thank you wptski If I decide to go that route or the pressurized can route is it okay to install the compressor dry? or should I put like one once in the compressor install it then vacuum the system and add the other 6 ounces with the pressurized can? Most new compressors come with oil installed bu...
