Re: Price of 134a going up now

Terrible news! I just went and looked and the prices are sky high. The only decent price that I saw online was at Home Depot $5.27 each for the 12 oz cans. That's in my local area and not all HDs are showing that in stock.

PAG oil in my R134a converted Mustang?

So I very successfully converted my 1991 Mustang GT's ac system to R134a back in 2008. I kept the OEM condenser and compressor. The accumulator, evaporator and all hoses were replaced with new. I flushed all of the OEM components, put in ester oil and after the conversion (and installation of an OEM...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

I went back and looked at the two pictures that I linked in my 13 December 2020 post and you can see me draining the blue oil into the clear, plastic cup. There is quite a bit of oil in the cup in the second picture and there is a stream of oil still draining into the cup. My Trans Am's AC has been ...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

When following the Delphi instructions and distributing certain amounts of oil throughout the components, do you recall what the total ounces of that was? I'm just curious as to how their specification compares to the original total amount that I posted. I've been trying to remember how much of the...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

John, I'm understanding that the different color control valves don't really translate into cooler temperatures (more stroke), right? It would just be a trial and error type of thing. I linked two pictures in my post on 13 December 2020 showing me draining the Delphi supplied, blue oil out of the ne...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

As long as it's AC Delco and not some obscure Chinese stuff, i think you're good. Thinner wall means better heat exchange actually (as long as it's not plugged with junk or badly assembled). You could try experimenting with a yellow or green control valve if you still wanted colder air. I've put a ...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

tbird, I'm quite happy with my AC. It works and it's keeping me cool in these stifling Houston temperatures. I may have to keep an eye on my daughter's Camry. She got it from her grandmother in the middle of the past winter and it hasn't been on any long drives since we've had hot weather. I still c...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

It's been a long time since I've come into this thread. With the very hot summer here in the north Houston area, I've had plenty of time to experience how well my Trans Am's AC system is operating. Ambient temps lately have been in the 95F area with high humidity. The lowest vent temps that I see ar...

Re: How cool should be vehicle ac be running?

Evap was leaking, and the compressor was shot I'm not an auto HVAC pro, just a DIYer. From what I know, if your compressor is shot, then you've got to replace your parallel flow condenser as well. It can't be flushed properly because of the parallel tubes. Last summer (2020) my 2002 Pontiac Trans A...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

See? Vent temp climbed down as heat load (humidity is also additional heat load) increased. I'd have turned AC on for a few mins during any warm spell. If I'm being 100% honest, I'll have to admit that there was a fear factor that kept me from doing this. I was afraid that the ac system wouldn't wo...
