Re: Is some leakage at compressor normal? Issues with 4 Seasons re-man

It looks quite clear to me that I have a leak at the front of the compressor that is being slung around by the pulley. I suppose this would be a compressor shaft seal? Before I jump to the conclusion that the reman compressor is "bad" I want to consider if anything I could have done would ...

Is some leakage at compressor normal? Issues with 4 Seasons re-man

When I did a full R134a conversion on my 1989 BMW 325i I bought a re-manufactured AC compressor from 4 Seasons. It is very similar to this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B7D2D8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I changed the oil, rechagred etc and have always had a relativel...

Re: Where to find quality Shrader valves for R134a hi/lo ?

I pulled the valve cores, they are as below and match the smaller size shown in this photo I borrowed from this amazon sale .2" diameter .8" long I'm tempted to complicate my life by searching for the best cores available but having a hard time figuring out what to call this size valve to ...

Re: Where to find quality Shrader valves for R134a hi/lo ?

I should clarify - the car came from the factory with R12. The valves I want to replace are on hard lines which I did NOT change when upgrading to R134a. Therefore I am not sure if I need an R12 or R134a shrader or if there even is a difference. I am talking about the core only, not the adapter to c...

Where to find quality Shrader valves for R134a hi/lo ?

There are many links for shraders for sale. I upgraded my 1989 BMW to R134a and am still chasing a leak. I want to replace the hi and low valves. Am I overthinking this - drive to NAPA? Plenty of kits on Amazon (although I already have an install tool)

Thanks

Re: R134a port adapter: leaks and questions

The HF manifold set has R12 threaded connections with depressors prior to the quick disconnects. Per my photo they thread onto the existing R12 service ports. I successfully charged the system using this method.

Was not aware of the low loss adapter thanks for that.

Re: R134a port adapter: leaks and questions

Answer appears to be: yes this works.

When charging R12 is there any means of stopping the remaining refrigerant in the manifold hose from discharging to atmosphere when you unthread it from the suction port?

Re: R134a port adapter: leaks and questions

Fully understood - I already have the car clearly labeled underhood and in my service records that'll go to the next enthusiast who owns the car. Since I never worked on an R12 equipped car can you clarify how the connection to the low side is typically made? Is it simply threaded on as shown, omitt...

R134a port adapter: leaks and questions

Hello all I have a converted my 1989 BMW 325i to R134a (compressor, expansion valve, dryer switch, condenser, lines, oil etc) and recently found a leak at the R134a suction port adapter. These adapters are widely available and often seem like not so well made items. Some are steel some are alum. Som...

I did give the vents a solid sniffing, with the A/C running, just after it was off etc. I'm a bit at a loss...
