Re: Compressor shelf life?
York shelf life is influenced by the position of the comp during storage. The box is marked to store with the shaft face down so that the face type shaft seal is immersed in oil. The compressor is shipped with a holding charge which should remain. The old spec mineral oil has much more tolerance for ...

Re: Can PAG and mineral coexist in old R12 system?
g'day mate, PAG in R-12 system? GM brochure GM-0011 indicates that removal of mineral oil during retrofit (mostly paraffinic in GM's case) is not recommended. Long story short, GM/USA avoids residual flush. OEMs are not all in agreement. Mineral oil and R-134a are far apart on the polar compatible s...

Re: SD7H15 enhanced as direct replacement?
SD7H15 Enhanced provides 12% better cooling by opening suction an discharge valves wider and also reducing re expansion of gas left in cylinder at TDC before suction down stroke. My original goal was to provide better cooling for diesel sleeper cab big rigs and off road vehicles. This model is 10% n...

Re: Mini compressor/less CID output?
I'd modify your Impala OEM AC to only use recirculated air (not 20% OSA) and a additional 100% hot heater water shut off in Max AC mode. Then your OEM AC would work as good as a Vintage Air HVAC replacement. Additional Dynamat floor, under hood evaporator housing and firewall insulation helps. Vinta...

Re: AC compressor leaking - Can I patch it?
As Band of Brothers we sometimes offer to complete a thought (scroll shedding). Scroll compressors use one hard anodized scroll and one soft aluminum scroll. A scroll system with several hundred hours will have aluminum gray oil due to the soft scroll conforming to the shape of the hard anodized scr...

Re: Fresh air infiltration while in Recirculate Mode
My city water department tests for leaks in the city sewer system with oil mist which has no smell. Japaneese cars first designed HVAC with 100% recirculation instead of the 15% to 25% outside air (OSA) blend used by the big 3 in the MAX mode. My Ford uses some OSA to prevent gas fumes and has a rec...

Re: new member and have a non typical application
Wanted to attend SEMA. The clutchless compressors usually have a weight advantage because the field coil winding and armature plate are eliminated. The system must be optimized to prevent compressor failure at low displacement OCR year round operation. I received a month of training on VDC and Clutc...

Re: new member and have a non typical application
bohica, iron sharpens iron. We shared some really good AC engineering together over the years! Hope you get to Texas or I visit Las Vegas some sweet day. That was some important training for me for book authorship since I failed English. You gotta love the challenge of solving AC problems. danev2 Sur...

Re: new member and have a non typical application
bohica 2xo Roots with separator and Wankel have disappeared along with vane rotary. Speed pads are new to me. Lots of R500 in TX tractors. Smell during service is obvious. Agree that separator could be made (of aluminum) with little weight penalty smaller than a aluminum accumulator. I have a compac...
