Re: Compressor engages, then doesn't for the rest of the day
Check & adjust the clutch gap. After 10 years of cycling it is too wide. It will pull in once when the coil is cold. As soon as things are warm, it will not pull in again. Check the gap when the engine is cold - no sense working around a hot engine to take static measurements. Any gap over .025 ...

Re: Full size Ford custom A/C project
Well, before we get in to the Fairlane... Your Fiat A/C has a glaring problem that is costing you a lot of cooling. You need to correct the backwards condenser. Parallel flow condensers have a "Top" which needs to be up and the liquid needs to be collected at the bottom of the unit to be f...

Re: strange cooling
Sounds like fun. I try not to work on pressurized systems myself.
Did you pull that evaporator out of a wreck yourself? Junkyards are sometimes less than truthful...
Sounds like it may have had some sealer in the system. A new evaporator core will fix that.

Re: 2005 Ford E-350 stretch dual air originally pressure 70 on low side
Cleaning a filthy condenser is best done with it completely cold. If the grille is not too hard to remove, do so. I like to use floor stripper & a spray bottle from Home Depot or Lowes - but the stuff is hard on paint & you have to be careful. Simple Green straight out of the bottle works go...

Re: 1967 Catalina AC Help/Advice
It would take a pretty badly plugged dryer to restrict refrigerant that badly. Some dryers can be put in backwards - this will cause all of the refrigerant liquid to stack up in the dryer. Usually obvious because the dryer gets cold, and the line to the TXV does too. Where ever the restriction is, e...

Re: Zero Z134 (R134a Replacement)
Another scam from the hydrocarbon clowns.
The mass conversion gives it away. Nice, Natural, PROPANE.
An iffy repair that may leak is the PERFECT place for a nice flammable refrigerant!

Re: 2005 Ford E-350 stretch dual air originally pressure 70 on low side
The first place I would look is the fan clutch. Even when a clutch is worn out the engine may not overheat. You can check for airflow issues by spraying the condenser with water & watching the pressures. I have also seen condensers full of insects & dirt that no longer transfer heat effectiv...

Re: strange cooling
I have some long hoses for that - on cars with a flush hood sometimes it is easier to come out under the front edge. You can couple R12 hoses with a flared tube coupler. Shimming the hood hinges with 1/2" spacers & longer bolts works too. It is a lot easier on cars with hidden wipers & ...

Re: 1967 Catalina AC Help/Advice
There it is. The TXV is passing just enough liquid to make the evaporator inlet cold... If the suction line to the POA is not cold & dripping, the evaporator is starving for refrigerant. The POA is holding 29psi, but I suspect the compressor side of the POA is in vacuum. Time to recover & be...

Re: 2005 Ford E-350 stretch dual air originally pressure 70 on low side
Which engine in this E350? How long have you owned it? How many miles on it? Any history on previous A/C system repairs? There are several things that can cause performance like you are seeing. The compressor seems healthy with head pressures like that. Why do you think there is something wrong with...
