Re: Challenger Tractor A/C Problems...
Just a theory: after daily crankwashout of PAG from thermal migration of R-134a w/o daily operation, the bearing surfaces are squeeky clean. Mineral oil is not solubable with R-134a so some should remain on bearings to survive 2500 crpm startup. One of the lube enhancers may work better than 5GS as ...

Re: Challenger Tractor A/C Problems...
Ag applications can cause liquid slugging and oil wash out of the compressor. Additional R134a without appropriate oil charge increase would magnify "Dry Lock" of compressor. Cool mornings (and cold compressor) with sun on the cab and warn evaporator will cause liquid migration to suction....

Re: Challenger Tractor A/C Problems...
Don't think AGCO made any changes in CAT design spec's. Maybe thermostat is not operating and clutch cycles on low ambient 6 psi switch, causing evaporator icing. System is unique in that accumulator is a counter measure against liquid slugging on a thermostat clutch cycling system. Saw a yellow AGC...

Re: Working on fire engine AC (again)
Preferred fire engine condenser is a Red Dot roof mount. Hot air recirculation back into the front of the vehicle during long idle (especially with tail wind) causes high side spike and raises vent temp. Feathers, especially Morning Dove, are better dealt with on the tailgate but skin on the breast ...

Re: Full size Ford custom A/C project
Probably disappointing to use a 5.5 " high evaporator hung over the hump. I installed a Mark IV slim line under dash evap similar to the one shown on this web site in my 65 Ford convertible and drove all over USA with great cooling. By utilizing the passenger foot real estate and recirculation ...

Re: No low pressure
I would remove 6 bolts on the rear of the compressor and the rear head and inspect for a loosened bolt for the retainer of the discharge valves.

Re: Oil amount determination with different style replacement compressor?
If it was genuine Sanden the correct oil amount in already included inside the new Sanden replacement compressor which has generally been 8 oz for a CCOT system.

Re: New compressor. Not cooling well.
Failed compressor valves allow rapid high to low side equalization reverse gas flow carrying contamination through the compressor itself into the suction line, rather than through the normal forward expansion device flow. Compressor exchange without suction side flushing can result in multiple compr...

Re: Stuck Compressor Clutch Plate: Suggestions on Removal
FYI: The overheated field coil shows the imprint on the back side that it overheated the front compressor nose housing which can result in a crispy critter shaft seal that could leak on (1) the outer diameter or (2) under vacuum through the Teflon front lip or (3) the rear elastomer lip seal under p...
