Re: Saga with my 87 Chevy Truck continues

Cant anything be easy? The GM factory replacement condenser is about 2" smaller than the original and doesn't fit into the mounts. Ugh. No part number on the condenser so I am wondering if it is the correct part? Supposed to be a parallel flow that replaces the original. It is smaller overall a...

Re: Low voltage at clutch

Found some corroded connectors and cleaned it up and now have 13v at the compressor with engine running. Battery voltage is about 14v.

Re: Low voltage at clutch

In diagnosing everything, I'm only getting about 11v to my compressor clutch. Could that be part of my clutch slipping problems? Where should I start looking to find the voltage draw? 1987 Chevy R30, 7.4l. Is this measured with the engine running? Or with engine "off" ? Engine running. Te...

Re: Saga with my 87 Chevy Truck continues

Every listing I see for a 1987 truck is the R4 compressor. Without knowing what the previous owner(s) may have done, you have blown up two compressors. You have high head pressures. High pressures and poor cooling are usually due to hot refrigerant. The primary filter in that system is a condenser ...

Re: Saga with my 87 Chevy Truck continues

As I wait for my last few items (new hoses and HPCO from AC Kits!), I decided to call the compressor mfg tech line to discuss 2 failed compressors. The documentation for the compressor specifies PAG 46. When I bought the compressor, the store did not have any 46 - they only had 100. The clerk insist...

The last picture when the compressor isn't running was taken the night before after driving home at 90F.

High and low sides will equalize when compressor is not running. That is totally normal.

Replacing belt fan with e-fan was probably a mistake. Factory mechanical fans will be superior to your typical chain-auto-parts e-fan. The fact that the engine overheats tells me you are not moving enough air through the radiator.

This is probably more along the lines of the fans that you want - http://www.carparts.com/details/Chevrolet/Silverado_2500_HD/Item_Auto/Cooling_Fan_Assembly/2005/RDXC160938.html?TID=gglpla&origin=pla&gclid=CjwKEAjw8da8BRDssvyH8uPEgnoSJABJmwYohyG9LR-qyV7YSGJ1xjQTo6vCB5kmSpJ6FSNBNPZbWhoCmNjw_wcB

R12a is a mixture of propane and butane. Why would anyone want to charge their A/C system with something that flammable?
