Re: System design with GMA6 Compressor

Which engine is in the car?

The A6 was never designed to operate as a cycling clutch unit. It is from the TXV + POA valve era.

RHD - where are you located?

Re: Clutch squeals something awful

1) Are you sure it is the clutch, and not the belt? Oil on the belt? Old or worn belt? 2) There is no real reason for the system to "Build up head" with the compressor off. What are the system operating pressures, ambient & vent temps? It is difficult to diagnose a system without press...

Oh man flushing. Back in the day on this board there were some spirited discussions on the subject. You mentioned Brake Cleaner before. That can be a useful tool for getting the oil out of some parts. When considering solvents for flushing, I prefer the glass test. Use a clean piece of glass, laying...

Re: Saga with my 87 Chevy Truck continues

Every listing I see for a 1987 truck is the R4 compressor. Without knowing what the previous owner(s) may have done, you have blown up two compressors. You have high head pressures. High pressures and poor cooling are usually due to hot refrigerant. The primary filter in that system is a condenser w...

Re: Camaro Help

Wow. Your A/C tech needs some training... That is a V7 Compressor. So when you see a high side that is decent, and the low side is too high - the first place you look is at the Control Valve. 160 High x 80 low is a de-stroked compressor. Now, from the sound of things, the first (likely OEM) compress...

Re: Advice needed

Since you ran the compressor in to the ground, there will be a lot of junk in the condenser.

You may find the orifice tube screen clogged again from that.

Re: Acura RDX AC Acting Strange

The target clearance is as tight as you can get it without dragging - it only gets larger with time. After seeing the result of a mishap last year with the "smack the clutch while running" trick i quit recommending it. What happened? Got tangled in the belt somehow, I assume? A younger ma...

Re: Accumulator not sweating

So what exactly is a "maxxed out" high side pressure? and why would this "settle down" to "normal"? What were these pressures?
