Re: 93 Toyota Pickup recharge challenges

Yes, do a deep vacuum (after making sure the system is leak free) and then charge by weight into that deep vacuum. Anything else than that, you're causing serious compressor wear. Professionals regularly carry the entire process without turning the AC compressor on, it's the only way to make all the...

Re: Ford Focus MK2 break 2006 AC issues

"Most vehicles should turn on the radiator electric fan immediately with the A/C turned on" BINGO Well, mine turns on only once the liquid line pressure gets high enough. Engine control units are often programmed so that the AC clutch gets disengaged below a certain rpm value to prevent t...

Re: 93 Toyota Pickup recharge challenges

Is the TXV's sensing bulb firmly attached to the evaporator's outlet? And properly insulated so that it's only sensing the evaporator's outlet temperature, too? Ester oil is a great solvent so the dark oil you're referring to might well be Ester. Little oil found inside the compressor is normal occu...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

PAG Blue or PAG 125 are the commercial denominations of possible equivalents to the oil originally featured in these compressors, a slightly thinner PAG 125 oil. But PAG 150 is basically the same thing.

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

Yes, some oil always comes out with the recovered refrigerant, but the recovery machine has an oil separator and a measuring scale/bottle. If the technician isn't a complete idiot, the same amount recovered will be injected back into the system right after the vacuum is done as fresh oil. By the way...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

The "automatic adjusting" stuff is nothing but an orifice tube that pretends to act as a cross-charged TXV, basically by restricting as the high side goes down due to limited compressor capacity and the opposite (the comparison comes from the fact that the cross charged TXV would be acting...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

Good. If you're looking at a replacement, i'd recommend you use the fixed one instead of the variable one. The compressor's control valve likes the suction pressure to be as steady as possible while it's operating within the "destroke" suction pressure zone. Whenever a TXV is used with the...

Re: Full charge after only half the freon?

Exactly. At least minimum speed. If i owned that vehicle, i'd rewire it so that the rear blower is always running at least at minimum speed whenever front AC is on. Exactly like with my front AC-only little Kei car (a relay behind the dash keeps the blower on at minimum speed even if you rotate the ...

Re: Full charge after only half the freon?

Keep in mind that when the refrigerant is just a little low, the system might still perform satisfactorily but the compressor could be running oil starved. And HT6s are really reliant upon proper oil return rate. This gets critical if there's rear AC. Rear AC can basically turn into a refrigerant an...

Re: 2007 Ford AC low side cycling

Adding refrigerant until you see correct pressures is a bad approach. It only starves the compressor of lubricant and nothing else.

Reclaim any refrigerant, leak test, vacuum and then charge by weight to the correct specs is what's supposed to be done.
