Re: compressor oil quantity

For the sake of clarity, here in Europe PAG 68 isn't OEM Sanden SP-15 - the OEM oil is pretty hard to find here too. PAG 68 is just an easily available AC lubricant also sold as "Universal PAG" under different brands. Viscosities are an intermediate between PAG 100 and PAG 46 - for some re...

Re: compressor oil quantity

I'd say to read the new compressor's label/instructions in order to know which oil is needed, since Sanden SD7H15 comps are known to use different oil viscosity grades. SP-10 oil is PAG 46, SP-20 is PAG 100 and SP-15 is an intermediate grade oil (some say use PAG 68, which can be really hard to find...

Re: Evaporator fin density and differing TXV adjustments

I'd like to update this thread with new findings. In my quest to find a suitable (and possibly even better) replacement TXV for my car's VDC system (whose OEM TXV is now an NLA part), i tested two TXVs used with both Scion xB evaporator styles. I've tested a Denso 447500-2390 (Toyota PN 88515-52040,...

Re: AC restoration questions, '93 Mazda RX7

Orings have to be lubed (with a non-hygroscopic AC lube/AC o-ring lube, such as the good ol' mineral, and Ester, unfortunately, is hygroscopic).

Re: Cannot get compressor to engage

I can't stress this enough, going to a pro is always cheaper than a new comp. Charging with the comp on is a huge no no.

That poor comp was likely on its last legs anyway. The swashplate half-shoes are designed with great abuse in mind.

Re: Cannot get compressor to engage

A bad AC clutch harness can do that. I had the same issue on my car and you had to yank the ECU side AC clutch harness to bring the clutch back to life (stopped working randomly on bumpy roads). Needed a new harness to be spliced in and has operated fine ever since. No amplifiers or any fancy stuff ...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

Whenever you're in doubt, a visit to an RRR station equipped pro is always money well spent, no matter how much. When you turned the compressor on, it pulled refrigerant inside so slowly because, with so little refrigerant inside and so cold ambient temperature, it was fully destroked. If it can be ...

Make sure the AC system is fully charged with the specified amount of PAG oil.

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

Can't find a pic of the rear label, but a DEC PAG is either stated to be so ("double end capped" or "double end cap" clearly written on the label) or the label says something along the lines of "exceptional moisture resistance" or the "moisture resistance" qua...

Re: 2002 Pontiac Ram Air Trans Am ac is not cooling properly

Great news. A few tips for the best results possible: 1)When adding oil to the compressor, adding it through the oil drain hole and not through the suction port is critical to ensure proper lubrication. 2)Adding the required amount of oil to the accumulator is equally critical. 3)Rotating the clutch...
