Re: Toyota pickup AC questions
I think that some people rent those pumps from AutoZone, use them improperly (causing oil to spill) and then they run them while low or out of oil. This obviously causes irreparable damage to the pump. Last year, I was 100 miles from my own vacuum pump. I got the free loaner vacuum pump from local ...

Re: Toyota pickup AC questions
Thanks John. I texted my neighbor this morning and she said the AC still in fact is working, although still not as cold as it should be. I want to assume the system is now reliable (even if I’m a hair low on oil... ) I have been 2 hours away at school for the past few weeks so I haven’t touch...

Re: Toyota pickup AC questions
Thanks for the reply John. My neighbor drove her truck to the airport the next morning and told me the ac worked still (so that’s good). She has been gone for a while so we will see if it still works when she returns. I had vacuumed the system for about 1 hour or maybe 1.5 hours with a vacuum pump I...

Re: Toyota pickup AC questions
One more thing! Upon removing the R/D, I noticed I could shake it and hear all the little silica balls loose in there. I was able to turn it upside down and dump some out. Also I could not blow my breath through the condenser but I could with compressed air. So surely both of those things were parti...

Re: Toyota pickup AC questions
Hey everyone. So, got the truck all buttoned up today. Ended up actually being the correct expansion valve in the mail so that’s good. Blew all the lines out with some $17 one-time-use cans from the auto parts stores (worked well), and then used compressed air to clean the residue out as best I coul...

Re: Toyota pickup AC questions
Hey guys. I’m adding oil to the compressor and I cannot get t to take even 4oz. I dumped the mineral oil and flushed, then tried to add 4oz of pag 46. It seems I only drained about 2oz or so of mineral oil. What to do?

Re: Toyota pickup AC questions
Okay sorry, here’s another question. As for the pag oil, I couldn’t find the 46 in store so I’m checking another store (Napa) tomorrow, or ordering it online. We’ll see. For the flush, I think I found some of the disposable stuff in a pressurized can. I would use my own air compressor and a gun+cani...

Re: Toyota pickup AC questions
Thanks guys! Guess I’ll hit up the auto parts store and hope I can find something local for the flush. Checking the parts over now, I’m thinking my TXV is not the correct size, just like the first one I bought. The compressor says nothing about any oil being added alread. Can I take off the top to s...

Re: Toyota pickup AC questions
After reading some more about flushing the lines, it seems that mineral spirits and compress air should work only because r12 uses mineral oil to begin with. I’d imagine there’s only a few small ac lines that need to be flushed. Everything else will be new.
