Thank you to both of you. I agree that I am on borrowed time, and that it is best to replace the compressor before failure.
Come to think of it, this truck was pretty rough when I purchased it. Dog hair everywhere, looked to also be an Arkansas farm vehicle  I bet it saw all kinds of low ...

Re: Poor cooling - diagnosing weak compressor or a TXV
If on your first test you're reading 42 PSI on the low side (~48°F evaporator temperature, and ~63°F vent temperature), I too, doubt that the hot-water valve is to blame. Toyota valves of that vintage are pretty robust.
Your second set of low-side pressures is much better, but the vent temp of 45 ...

Re: Poor cooling - diagnosing weak compressor or a TXV
In those same conditions, what is the temperature of the suction line close to the low side service port, give us all the temps and pressures
I'm going to be purchasing a thermocouple soon so I can reliably take line temps. If you guys have any recommendations on one I would greatly appreciate ...

Re: Poor cooling - diagnosing weak compressor or a TXV
I just tested again today, here are my results.
80F ambient, 89psi static, windows down, 1500 rpm, recirc, 29-32psi low, 177psi high. Vent temps at 45F. Much better, but still would like to see 38-42F with ambient only being 80F.
So it looks like today its working rather well. What sorts of things ...

Hello everyone, I am getting 60-70F vent temps on my 4runner. The system was evacuated, vacuumed, and charged by weight. Pressures are 42psi/220psi at 1500rpm. Condenser is clean, fan clutch is GOOD ...

Re: Quality can tap?
Side can taps ROCK. My only choice for stuff in cans.

Reliable, easy to use. Works on all of the standard size cans. Ever drop a nearly full can of brake cleaner, and snap off the valve stem? Yep, works for ...

Quality can tap?
Hey everyone. I've been doing some AC work in the past and have yet to be satisfied with any can taps I've used.
Before the self sealing cans came, I have a tap that simply punctured the top of the can. It worked okay.
Then the self sealing cans came, and the blue adapters came out. Those suck, I ...

Re: losing all refrigerant over night.
It’s very easy for a system to hold vacuum indefinitely, but immediately leak when it sees positive pressure.
You can fill the system with nitrogen and listen for leaks. You could also charge with some UV dye.

Re: 06 Civic-Insufficient Cooling
The condenser is the primary filter on the system. When a compressor fails & sheds pieces, they go straight to the condenser.
Parallel flow condensers have tiny passages - in parallel. When the trash blocks one passage, you lose cooling capacity. They are hard to block completely, and are nearly ...

Re: 06 Civic-Insufficient Cooling
Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, I have no back story on this car other than that 'it has a new compressor', which we’re not even sure if that is true. However, condenser appears original so I doubt it was replaced. Also since it was a used car lot, I'm highly doubting they replaced anything ...
