Re: Question re minimum safe refrigerant amount.
Thanks for your reply. The compressor was still engaging normally and the system was cooling well before the recharge. I'll try and make sure to have the system serviced on a more frequent basis. When it comes to AC systems, it seems more difficult to know when to bring it in. Some systems leak ...

Question re minimum safe refrigerant amount.
The refrigerant in my CRV was recharged last week and the AC technician mentioned the AC system only contained 8 oz and required 18 oz.
At 8 oz the car was only at 45% full charge.
1. Is there a point where, if the vehicle's system falls below a certain percentage of full charge, it could cause ...

Re: AC service caps for Honda, do they provide seal the AC system?
I purchased a couple of new caps at NAPA today. I'm guessing they should be installed until they are snug, and then tighten just a bit more. But maybe someone can let me know how much force is needed when installing the caps in order to avoid refrigerant escaping.
Thank you
Thank you

Re: AC service caps for Honda, do they provide seal the AC system?
While you have the caps off, put a small dab of Nylog Blue (available from ACKits.com, this Forum's sponsor) on each internal seal and the sealing edge and threads of each service port before screwing the caps back on.
The specs that I have for your car are as follows: 18 ounces net weight of R ...

AC service caps for Honda, do they provide seal the AC system?
The CR-V is 20 years old and I'm considering replacing the service caps. Do the cap seals fail with age? I can't find High and Low pressure caps online that fit the Honda. The Honda dealer only carries the High pressure cap as the Low pressure cap has been discontinued. The caps look similar to ...

Re: Leave well enough alone or charge AC system? Older Hondas
That said, if the system is cooling as it should, I would indeed leave it alone per your Item #1.
Exactly what I would do.
Thank you, that makes sense....my main concern was that when the refrigerant charge gets too low (and if I don't catch it in time) it might cause expensive damage ...

Re: Leave well enough alone or charge AC system? Older Hondas
The machine will tell the operator how much refrigerant (net weight) comes out, along with any oil (fluid ounces) that is recovered. The RRR machine "gauges" how much of each it recovers so that you'll know whether the system was low on refrigerant, or conversely, overcharged.
Thanks for your ...

Re: Leave well enough alone or charge AC system? Older Hondas
I should also have mentioned the cabin air filter has been maintained.
I found the following on the internet, regarding a "rough test of the AC system would be to turn the fan on low, set the temp at minimum, set the vent to fresh air, run the engine rpm at around 2500. Measure the ambient temp ...

Leave well enough alone or charge AC system? Older Hondas
I've read through a number of the posts in the Auto Air Conditioning Procedures forum.
I would like to be proactive and help keep the AC in good working by maintaining the recommended amount refrigerant in the following two vehicles.
