Re: 1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

Cusser: The A6 and other GM products have a pressed on clutch hub. The clutch service takes a special puller, then another puller and support to get the pulley off. Here is a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URqFd3KkSRY I doubt you want to buy the tool kit. Having said that, the guy in that vi...

Re: 1969 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

Cusser: A few paths to take, depending on the use the car sees. 1 You could keep it R12. We know the refrigerant is harder to get, and that the A6 seal design will always pass a little oil. Along with that oil a little refrigerant is lost. If the car sits a lot the seal seems to leak more. The up si...

LOL Brad, You can scrape the mussels and barnacles off my cast iron Tecumseh, or use my York air compressor hotrodac Hey Tex! Been waiting to see you here. Barnacles? Oh man I need to post some pics for you! Do you happen to have a vent assembly for a Mark IV Roadmaster? https://photos.app.goo.gl/i...

Re: 53 Packard Patrician factory AC

Wow. What a beautiful casting. Absolutely no reason to discard a rigid, well designed item like that. A wide open invitation to a direct mount compressor. Two tabs on a plate at the hinge line and mount the plate to the bracket. Tension arm tab as needed. Yes, your valve can probably be backed down ...

Re: 53 Packard Patrician factory AC

Yeah that thing is a chinese frankenstein from a 24v chinese excavator. We are not even sure it is variable displacement.

I gave you the link to a real V7 in my last post.

Belt tension can be accomplished in a few ways. A solid cast iron mount may already have much of what is needed.

Re: 53 Packard Patrician factory AC

Compressor refrigeration capacity is the best way to size one. Most manufacturers provide a dyno sheet that indicates the cooling capacity in kilowatts. Converting Kw to btu/H may give you an idea of the scale. 12 kilowatts = 40,945 Bth/h or 3.4 tons of refrigeration. The important part of the curve...

Re: 53 Packard Patrician factory AC

You only need a single V belt. Many A6 compressors were single groove on some very large cars. There are ear mount V7 compressors, but to get one with a V belt you need to swap the clutch from a V5. The site sponsor can probably help you with the hybrid V7 compressor. https://www.ackits.com/ The V7 ...

Re: 53 Packard Patrician factory AC

The TXV regulates flow in to the evaporator coil to attempt to keep it from freezing. If you reduce airflow over the coil, the TXV reduces refrigerant flow based on temperature feedback. The GM A6 type system had two controls on the evaporator. A TXV at the inlet, and a POA valve on the suction side...

Re: 53 Packard Patrician factory AC

I have been busy with other things, but I did not forget this thread. That is a mighty evaporator you have there. Looks to have been built for a significant mass flow. The TXV is of course the big question mark. If it does not work, replacements will be a little complicated. It appears to have an eq...
