Re: cylinder on the side of universal condenser, is it a dryer?
Yes, sir, that sounds like a receiver/dryer (R/D) to me. In fact, nowadays that configuration is very common. I'm not familiar with your particular component, but usually, there's a removable plug at the bottom of the R/D so that you can replace the desiccant element should you need to open the sys...

Re: cylinder on the side of universal condenser, is it a dryer?
No problem, I figured it was a generic question. I have never seen a condenser made like that before, but hey I don't get out often lol. Google was no help. That is pretty helpful for packaging, so I will just run a direct line from the condenser to the txv.

cylinder on the side of universal condenser, is it a dryer?
Greetings! Putting together an AC system for my 1956 Chevy truck and ordered a universal 24"x16" condenser. The description said it came with a dryer, so I expected the usual bolt on soda can sized part to be shipped, but all that arrived was the condenser. The condenser has a cylinder wel...

Re: another hybrid system question change from fixed orifice to TXV
anyone have any insight? As I understand it the TXV controls system pressure, so would this take the place of the compressor cycling switch? Or does a TXV system use both? Does the compressor run continuously on a TXV system? Again I want to take a orifice tube AC system, remove the evaporator and o...

Re: electronically controlled variable displacement
I would ask over at LS1tech.com forums and see if an earlier LS engine compressor has the same mounting style. LS has been around since 1997 so the earlier compressors may be fixed displacement, I know the previous gen LT1 engines are.

another hybrid system question change from fixed orifice to TXV
Another one of my hybrid builds is in progress. 2007 Ford Crown victoria A/C, using all underhood components, but cannot use the Ford evaporator and its enclosure due to space limitations in the cabin. It is currently a fixed orifice setup, I want to install an aftermarket under dash universal evapo...

Re: hybrid system 1980s/1990s questions
Just an update, the system has been finished for awhile and works great. Used a new 1995 z28 compressor, condensor, 81 trans am evaporator, new 81 trans am orifice tube, new clutch pressure cycling switch for R134 pressures. New accumulator, made my own new hoses. Charged with 1995 Z28 amount of ref...

Re: hybrid system 1980s/1990s questions
I have a 1995 Z28 engine in the 78 trans am, so I have the low mount 95 compressor and condenser from the Z28, and the reverse cooled engine as well. I am making custom lines. Difference is instead of running a TXV valve like the 95 Z28 did I am using a fixed orifice in the 78 trans am evaporator. S...

Re: hybrid system 1980s/1990s questions
That picture is actually upside down, the male threaded fitting is on the passenger side bottom, so the compressor discharge will connect to the bottom.

Re: hybrid system 1980s/1990s questions
Thanks, I did not describe the condenser well enough. Both ports are on the passenger side. Is there a reason the compressor should discharge into the upper part of the condenser? Looks like this one was backwards. After reviewing the layout of the 95 Z28 flow it looks like the compressor discharge ...
