Re: 1995 Buick Lesabre
I wanted to leave some residual pressure in the system, in the hopes of not needing to vacuum it down. If I replace that Schrader valve that will empty the system. I’m guessing this will be the last fan switch this car ever sees, so thinking of just installing new switch and let it be. Good idea. I...

Re: 1995 Buick Lesabre
Ok. Went to pull the high side fan pressure switch. Unscrewed it about 4 turns and it started hissing. Waited a moment and it started hissing heavier and would not stop, so screwed it back down. Sealed up. Is there a Schrader valve under there? The mounting flange doesn’t look very deep. I would be...

Re: 1986 Volvo how much R134a into an R12 system?
Generally speaking, a conversion from R-12 to R-134a usually takes approximately 75 to 85-percent of the original R-12 charge, which according to the under-hood decal on this car is 46.4 ounces net weight. Start at 75-percent of the original charge, or about 35 ounces, and slowly work your way up, a...

Re: Another Ford Ranger AC Issue
Also where I currently reside, only Genuine Fan clutch assemblies are available (fan blade & clutch) & they'll set you back $1200. The viscous fan couplings have been available from time to time but they aren't too good quality wise. Oh, my :o A price of $1,200 would give me pause as well. ...

Re: 1995 Buick Lesabre
Had a cooling fan issue (fans on high all the time) and the scanner live data showed a AC PRESSURE - HIGH. (Key in, engine off, AC not run). After several days of having the fuse for the fans pulled I took the car to a mechanic with a GM TECH2 scanner. Put the fuse in and fans operated normally. Bu...

Re: Another Ford Ranger AC Issue
IMHO, car manufacturers sometimes get carried away with their testing procedures and expensive tools. Unless you're curious, I don't think I would spend the time and money diagnosing a component that frequently wears out, that can be replaced in half an hour or less in many instances, and that can b...

Or, you could have put all the oil in the compressor, if it would fit. I believe that's the way GM does it at the factory.

It seems to me like your project is becoming more complex than it needs to be. Just trying to save you some work

Re: 1986 Corvette R-12 to R-134a Conversion
JohnHere, after I inject the oil, are you saying that the existing vacuum should pull the charge in? I won't turn the vacuum pump on again after adding the oil? As said, maybe yes, maybe no. Your call. As also said previously, I wouldn't leave the system in a vacuum state over the winter. If you do...

Re: Another Ford Ranger AC Issue
I had a 1972 Dodge Colt, 4-speed manual transmission (Mitsubishi, made in Japan)—bought new—that simply would never cool sufficiently. This car didn't even have a fan clutch—just a solid plastic, belt-driven fan. Couple that fact with a tiny condenser, and the reasons for its poor cooling performanc...
