Re: My turn, need the wizards

As a reality check, I just checked the pressures on 2 vintage vehicles we did, a 1931 and a 1947. Both have the EXACT same components we have on this '59 Cadillac Car 1 30/200 car 2 30/230 did not measure vent temp but ice cold as usual, prolly 40° Is the evaporator airflow the same for all these 3...

Re: My turn, need the wizards

Oil return isn't a problem at abnormally low suction pressures. My guess is you have a lot of superheat, since you've described the suction line as cold and not frosted. As suction pressure goes lower, the gas density decreases, but the volume flow stays pretty much the same since a compressor is a ...

Re: My turn, need the wizards

The more I read this, the more it seems like there isn't a problem. 4 vents are very cold, low side pressure is too low, the compressor should cycle since it has more pumping capacity than the evap can handle. How are you setup to cycle the clutch, what controls? Why isn't it cycling instead of lett...

Re: My turn, need the wizards

Vent Temps? 3 of them ambient and 1 slightly cooler? I'm thinking defective evap short circuiting liquid right to the outlet, I've encountered them a few times.

Re: Changing Hose Sizes?

Got it, there is nothing wrong with using aluminum pipe as long as it's well supported and can handle the mechanical forces. Aluminum pipe is preferred by OEMs because it's cheap and durable, hoses are only used where necessary to accomodate movement (like engine rock) or assembly issues like where ...

Re: Changing Hose Sizes?

I don't understand what you are talking about. May I suggest we talk about the pipe/hose assemblies like this: Discharge Line - Goes from compressor to the condenser, high pressure, high temperature gas Liquid Line - Goes from the condenser to the receiver, also might apply to another line that goes...

Re: Changing Hose Sizes?

That side of the system is very forgiving, the sizes tbird listed are pretty standard. I don't think I've ever seen a #10 discharge hose, nothing wrong with it as long as it doesn't burst, only downside is it's stiffer, bigger, more expensive, harder to route, no performance problems. #8 is usually ...

Re: RV ac storage question.

Jon, Nope. To run a 4 kW AC unit (that's 13,600 BTU/h in the Queen's units), will require moving 212 cubic feet per hour of suction gas. This is suction gas at evaporator exit pressure, if you are doing this by letting the suction gas fill an evacuated tank, I dunno but my guess is the tank will be ...

Re: What happens when capacity of system is exceeded?

Why wouldn't the current TXV work? Why do you need to put in an H block? I don't agree that you NEED a cross charged head or bleed seat. You have a nice big fixed piston compressor, system charged head or cross charged would both work fine, whatever your existing valve head is will work fine. This c...

Re: What happens when capacity of system is exceeded?

Nice looking data that shows bad looking things :D I think your TXV might be having a problem, or maybe you have a clogged filter upstream of the TXV, or something else, because I still don't understand exactly what this car uses for an expansion device, you've mentioned a pressure regulator. Your e...
