Re: gmc sierra ac cycling help

IMHO, The 400 psi high-side press is likely due to one of 3 things.
1. Significantly over-charged system
2. Refrigerant blockage
3. Condenser airflow

Measuring refrigerant weight going back in will rule out #1.
Orfice tube inspection/replacement will help with item #2.
Inspect/clean the condenser ...

Re: Determining proper charge

Just as I got the A/C going again, our heat wave subsided. Now in the 80's after months of 100+ degs.. After driving around for a couple of weeks with temp sensor in center vent, seeing 41 degs while cruising down the highway and up to 50 degs in heavy traffic or stopped. A/C is always in fresh air ...

Determining proper charge

As I've posted recently, I repaired my 2000 Corvette A/C after compressor failure. Everywhere I look online says sys takes 24 oz. That includes this site, 4-seasons site, an online factory service manual, and from local Chev dealership using vin number lookup. But for some reason the sticker under ...

Re: Improving vac pump perf

Inert gas (argon) pressure leak-down test passed. Didn't loose any press over-night. Vacuum test passed. Got down to 470um then ran pump for another hour. Isolated pump and vacuum climbed to 795um and stabilized after 1 hr. Called it good and charged system.

Used 2 can exactly. Using scales with 0 ...

Re: Improving vac pump perf

Yes I'm aware you can't accurately read deep vacuum using a gauge set. That's why I have a micron gauge.

My understanding is that if you can pump down below 500 microns, isolate system and if it stabilizes and doesn't go above 1000 microns in a hour, there's no significant leaks. Just out gassing ...

Re: Improving vac pump perf

Last night I played with it some more. Connected my brand new 3-port Fieldpiece manifold and all 3 brand new Yellow Jacket Plus II hoses to vacuum. Got down to 370 microns after a few mins. Shut-off pump isolation valve and shut-off pump. Today I'm at ~750 microns, so think I'm OK in regards to ...

Re: Improving vac pump perf

After messing with the hose connections, I'm now able to achieve 130 microns in 3 mins and down to 91 microns after abt 20 mins. Holding it is another matter. If I close pump isolation valve, vacuum goes over 500 microns in a few mins with just the micron gauge connected via 3 ft hose. Still not ...

Improving vac pump perf

While awaiting parts to arrive, I dug out my old Robinair 15400 pump and micron gauge. Both have been in a box for the last 18 years or so. Warmed-up pump and replaced the oil (with Robinair oil). Connected micron gauge and it pulled down to abt 180 microns within a couple of mins. This pump is ...

Re: High efficiency condensor for C5 vette

Is it common for 12oz cans to be short on refrigerant? I've never heard of that.

On the other hand, I also feel that one can only deliver about 11 oz. from such cans into the system, from venting the hoses to some remaining inside the can.

I can see that happening with hose purging. It ...

Re: High efficiency condensor for C5 vette

Is it common for 12oz cans to be short on refrigerant? I've never heard of that. I have a scale I use for partial cans.

In regards to the oil, I was planning on putting half in the compressor and the other half in the receiver/dryer. Don't have an oil injector gizmo.

For the condenser, think I'll ...
