I HAVE A 1989 FORD E-150 CONVERSION VAN. CAN I PUT THE OIL IN AN OPEN PORT WHERE THE VALVE CORE IS ON THE HIGH SIDE? IF NOT HOW DO I ADD THE OIL?

You can put the oil in the compressor, condenser, filter, etc. It is good to spread it around a little. It can all be put in the compressor but the compressor should be rotated by hand before start up. The most important thing is not to have too much at the compressor so as to slug it with oil before the refrigerant oil migration process begins. HTH

Let me be sure, so if my car calls for 7.1 oz. of oil, I should put maybe 4 oz. in the compressor, and 1 oz. or so in each of the drier, condenser, and the evaporator, right?

That will work.
