Smallest auto a/c compressor

MondoMotors on Fri June 19, 2015 7:54 PM User is offline

Country of Origin: United States

Hello: This is my first post. I am trying to retrofit a/c into a re-engined 1969 Datsun truck. I am looking for the smallest possible a/c compressor. The ideal compressor would be 4.5 inches in diameter and less than 7 inches long.

I know a lot of very knowledgeable people post here, from reading forum posts about some interesting engineering solutions to specific problems. There used to be a poster here named ice-n-tropics who has commented in the past about very small scroll compressors. Sir, if you are still active on here, I would appreciate a PM from you, or for that matter anyone knowledgeable on this topic. I can be reached by email directly at: 2 coynes at att.net without the spaces.

If any of you can offer up a model number for a small compressor that is available new I would be most grateful.p

This will be driven by a serpentine belt off the side of a Nissan KA24de 4 cylinder. Due to space issues I plane to run a condenser with dedicated fan under the pickup bed. I am looking for the best a/c I can get in this small cab. The Central Valley gets "Africa hot" for 5-6 months each year. Almost Phoenix in July.... certainly a par with the Tanzania I remember!

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have experience with a Sanden TRSA09 scroll compressor? If someone has one, could you please provide a few measurements? What diameter is the pulley? What is the overall length of this compressor? And the width? I would ideally like to get some good pics with the dimensions.

Are there different model numbers with different hose fitting locations?

Finally, is there any compressor out there that is smaller?

I will be pricing this system together from scratch, so any assistance is most appreciated. My email is in the post above should someone prefer to PM me. Thank you very much in advance for ANY information.

Anyone? Little help? It was 108 here yesterday.... Open to any compressor that is about 6.5 inches from middle of serpentine pulley to back of housing. Needs to fit in a pretty tight space. Needs to be less than 5 inches in diameter. I would like to buy new if possible. Thanks.Anyone?

Thank you Mr. Ice-n-tropics. I really know nothing about a/c except as a consumer, so any advice is very, very much appreciated.

I have been trying to google info on this compressor since your post. Perhaps I don't know where to look, but finding actual dimensions has been challenging. I will try to find one in stock somewhere and go look at it.

I must say, I wish I was an engineer or knew more about thermodynamics to be able to fully understand some of your posts But I bet your personal a/c setup is pretty chilly.

I do appreciate you taking the time to make a comment. If you care to share any other tips and tricks, my personal email is in my profile and I would love to hear from you.

Hi MM
Arizona Mobil Air Inc supplies the Sanden SD7B10with 2 clutch options)
1) Sanden #7170 with 2 half inch wide belt grooves AMA #CO7170C (you can drive with one belt in the rear groove to increase clearance behind the compressor)
2) Sanden #7176 with 6 poly vee flat serpentine belt grooves AAMA # CO7176C
Continuous rated rpm is 9000 rpm so it's pretty hard to over rev this 6.1 cubic inch displacement compressor
Hope AMA can tell you the dimensions you need

MM
Enter 7170 at sanden.com for dimensions
Results of math is 150.8 mm (5.93) inches from center of rear belt groove to rear of compressor
