AC howling no pressure drop

ggenovez on Fri May 08, 2015 7:06 PM User is offline

Year: 1997
Make: Ford
Model: F150
Engine Size: 4.6
Refrigerant Type: R134
Ambient Temp: 80
Pressure Low: 125
Pressure High: 125

Hi all,

The other day the idler wheel on my 97 4.6 went out. replaced it, and when I fired it up. I saw a couple sparks come out from the AC compressor clutch.

I'm guessing some bearings fell in the clutch.

NOw when I turn on the AC, i get a howling sound at low RPM and no AC

Put on my gauges, and I have about 150 PSI static. Turning on the AC doesn't make the pressure drop.

Any ideas?

Thanks

May have shorted out the clutch coil.

I don't think so. I can see it engaging when the AC is turned on.
