I'm getting slammed with dead clutch coils and non working fan clutches on these 03-08 dodge trucks with the diesel engine. Anybody else? The coils are just plain open circuits and the fans barely spin. Can count the blades as they pass by but the trucks dont overheat. Does cause stupid high readings in the 500 psi range though.
Those should be the electrically actuated fan clutches. Are the clutches bad, or is it an electrical fault keeping them from locking up?
The no fan issue leads to very high underhood temperatures, as well as the crazy head pressures. This can overheat the clutch coil.
I would also check the idlers & tensioner - the high underhood temps can kill the bearings, and they will go in a few weeks after the repair - because when the fan does run, it puts another 10 horsepower on the belt.
