Compressor idler bearing noise?

redsoxwin100 on Mon October 06, 2014 11:00 PM User is offline

Year: 2003
Make: honda
Model: civic
Engine Size: 1.7

Whining noise narrowed to compressor/pulley/bearing/clutch area.
a/c works fine.
noise goes away when clutch engaged.
With clutch plate off noticed small "bubbling" of fluid around what i believe is the bearing.

If it is the bearing......why would the noise stop when clutch engaged?
Is this called the idler pulley/bearing?
can i just replace this on this model car?

thanks

When the clutch is engaged the entire bearing rotates with it or isn't been used.

Take belt off and spin pulleys by hand. Replace any that are noisy. You can buy a clutch set for that compressor but if it has a lot of miles with the A/C on you could consider replacing the whole compressor since they do wear out.
