A Few Questions Before I Recharge with R12

Apex Eight on Fri August 15, 2014 12:16 PM User is offline

Year: 1989
Make: Nissan
Model: 240SX
Engine Size: 2.4L
Refrigerant Type: R12
Country of Origin: United States

Alright, so here's the deal. I accidentally took a line off of my AC drier (oops) and whole bunch of bubbly fluid came out (I'm guessing this is the R12 and some mineral oil). I reconnected it. I also had to take off the two AC lines going to my compressor to get to something I was working on. Nothing came out of those. My AC no longer blows cold. I have sourced two cans of R12 and a charging hose.

Do I need to vacuum the system out before I put the R12 in?
Do I need to add some more mineral oil? If so, where does it go?
Should I replace my drier?
Should I replace my expansion valve?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That seems logical !!!

Do I need to add some more mineral oil? If so, where does it go? IF YOU LOST SIGNIFICANT REFRIGERATION OIL, YOU SHOULD REPLENISH THE AMOUNT LOST; THAT WILL BE A GUESS.

Should I replace my drier? NOT REALLY NEEDED TOREPLACE, AS THE SYSTEM WAS NOT LEFT WITHOUT REFRIGERANT FOR SIGNIFICANT TIME

Should I replace my expansion valve? NO

Thank you for your reply! Where do I add the mineral oil?

Bump. I have acquired the R12.

Once again, can anyone give me an idea of where I should add some oil?

You can open a line and pour it in anywhere-- the drier is an obvious choice. Remember that it doesn't take a lot of oil to make a big mess, so be careful about not adding too much.
