Honda Accord Only Cools on passenger side

FHL FERG on Mon August 11, 2014 4:41 PM User is offline

Year: 2006
Make: Honda
Model: Accord
Refrigerant Type: r134a
Ambient Temp: 91
Pressure Low: 40
Pressure High: 125
Country of Origin: United States

Trying to figure out the AC system for a friends car.

The 2 passenger side vents blow nice and cold but the 2 driver side vents do not. IT DOES NOT HAVE DUAL CLIMATE CONTROLS

I suspected a blend door issue but Google searches turned up that the evap core was bad. I read multiple articles on the evap core getting clogged and not cooling one side or the other.

I just pulled and replaced the evap core today then recharged the system. While things are definitely better, it still blows much warmer on the driver side than the passenger side.

The vent temps I am getting after replacing the evap core are as follows:

From left to right when sitting in the driver seat are- 85deg 73deg 62deg 62deg

So, you can see the system is cooling quite well on the passenger side. But the driver side is still very hot. What am I missing?

It could be reheating from the heater. The vent air should be about 40 if system is really working well (you may need to be driving the car, not just sitting at idle to achieve that) Older Hondas had a cable operated hot water valve on the firewall that was really prone to get out of adjustment and leave the heater active even with the dash dial on full cold.

Also, she drove it home and noticed that at highway speeds it got significantly warmer.

At that point it was the hottest part of the day at about 97 degrees ambient temperature.

@ mk378 thank you for the reply. I'll look into that.

From what google searches are turning up, this driver side lack of cold air is a common issue. I'm finding a lot of references to the blend door motors and the evap cores. I looked at all of the blend doors prior to doing the evap core today and they all seemed to cycle appropriately.

I used to frequent this forum several years ago, had a different screen name then and I couldn't access it this time so I made the new one. But I have to say, I have recommended this forum for years because of the abundance of help and quality information I have received in the past. But now, with little to no response in over a week...... SMH

Did you check the water valve?

I've been lurking on this forum for a while and thought I may be able to provide some assistance so I signed up, just for you. ;-)

I'm not extremely familiar with this generation Accord, but I'm pretty sure the climate control unit has a self diagnostic function, if the display is digital then it probably does. I already Googled it for you, it's the first link in the Google search below.

It's kind of like playing Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. You know what I mean right?

Edit: Oh and I noticed your high side temp is 125. Did you maybe mean 225?
