I have worked on three of these that either won't keep the belt on or make a loud racket sometimes when the air is on. This latest one will work fine if you turn the AC on after the truck is going down the road. If AC is turned on before the truck starts moving, the belt tensioner starts going crazy. New belt and tensioner were installed last year. I recovered the freon and it only had 16 OZ. We took the compressor off. I was suspecting it to have a bunch of oil in it, but was only able to get maybe a half an ounce out of it. Last time I worked on one of these, the said cure was to replace compressor, belt, and tensioner, but I wasn't able to find out why. Replacing all three worked for me one time. And not the next.
Has anyone ever figured out what causes this.
I had a mechanic in the past that said you had to run a GM belt on these vehicles. Even though Gates has a size real close it is not the same.

It would be worth a try. I'm grasping at straws with these trucks.
