There is 12 volts at the wire connector going to the compressor, but clutch is not trying to engage. The replacement compressor is pretty spendy. Can just the clutch or coil be replaced or is that a bad idea?
Thanks
Does coil show continuity? Is the resistance across coil terminals 3.45 ohms or near there? if not, coil is toast

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......
You can purchase the whole clutch assembly or just the coil alone.
I didn't check coil for continuity. Does the coil have to be removed from the compressor to check it? I tapped on the clutch and it never tried to engage.
unplug the connector and measure the clutch coil.
